Summary
This is a cross sectional analytic study consist of two parts; cross-sectional where the prevalence of anemia was determined and analytic where factors associated with anemia were evaluated.  The aim of the study was to evaluate anemia and the associated sociodemographic factors among children aged (9-24 months) in the Primary Health Care Well Baby Clinic at King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital, Jeddah.
Interview questionnaire was the tool of the study which include all children aged (9-24 months) who attended the Well Baby Clinic on April 2000.
The prevalence of Anemia was 43.8% among males and 31.6% among females, with an over all prevalence of 37.1%.
It was shown that, there is no relation between weaning at around four months of age and intake of iron drops and the prevalence of anemia.  As the father education level and occupation increase, the prevalence of anemia significantly decreased.  For the mother, there were other factors which might play a role.  However, working mothers had children with significant low prevalence of anemia.
The aim of the suggested recommendation were to lower the prevalence of anemia and minimize its adverse effects on the future of the children.
